What types of therapy does Dr. Kay offer?
Dr. Kay provides individual therapy for adults navigating anxiety, depression, stress, life transitions, and cultural identity issues. All sessions are conducted via secure telehealth.

Is therapy confidential?
Yes — your privacy is a top priority. All sessions are conducted in compliance with HIPAA regulations. What you share in therapy remains confidential, except in cases where disclosure is legally required, such as if there is a risk of serious harm to yourself or others, or in cases of suspected child abuse, elder abuse, or abuse of a dependent adult.

How do I schedule an appointment?

What should I expect in the first session?
The first session is an opportunity to discuss your concerns, goals, and background. Dr. Kay will assess how therapy can best support you and outline a plan moving forward.
How long are therapy sessions?
Sessions typically last around 50 minutes. However, some insurance plans or programs may allow for shorter sessions depending on their specific guidelines.
How often should I attend therapy?
The frequency of sessions depends on individual goals and needs. Some clients prefer weekly sessions, while others may benefit from biweekly or monthly sessions.
Insurance & Payment
Do you accept insurance?
Dr. Kay currently accepts select insurance plans, including: Aetna, Cigna, Optum / United Healthcare, and Nippon Life Insurance. Please contact us to verify coverage.
What are the payment options?
We accept credit/debit cards and HSA/FSA payments. Payment is due at the time of the session.
What if I need to cancel or reschedule my appointment?
We require at least 24-hour notice for cancellations or rescheduling to avoid a cancellation fee.
Telehealth & Online Therapy
How does online therapy work?
Sessions are conducted via a secure, HIPAA-compliant video platform (Doxy.me). You will receive a link before your scheduled appointment.
What do I need for a telehealth session?
You’ll need a stable internet connection, a private and quiet space, and a computer or mobile device with a camera and microphone. For your safety and confidentiality, you must not be driving or operating a vehicle during your session. Sessions cannot be conducted while you are in transit.
Is telehealth therapy as effective as in-person therapy?
Yes! Research has shown that telehealth therapy can be just as effective as in-person therapy for many mental health concerns.

Do you provide therapy for couples or families?
Dr. Kay specializes in individual therapy and does not offer couples or family counseling.
What should I do if I’m experiencing a mental health crisis?
If you are in crisis or experiencing an emergency, please call 911 or visit your nearest emergency room. You can also reach out to the National Suicide Prevention Lifeline at 988.
Can I contact Dr. Kay between sessions?
For non-urgent matters, you can reach out via email. However, therapy-related discussions will take place during scheduled sessions.
